Thursday evening in Charlotte to see ChickenFoot with Noel
It was Noel's first big concert.
ChickenFoot is Sammy Hager, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith. It was an awesome show at a very cool venue. Our $10 lawn seats were well worth the money spent. They played their new album, one Montrose tune: Bad Motor Scooter and a small portion of a Led song. The guys really rocked but I wish they had played one song from each members respective bands. That may have made it a notch more interesting. Adding Brad Hamilton for the last two songs was very cool.
Noel really seemed to enjoy the show. We met up with Dave and Edie at the venue and watched the show together.

1 Watagua run with Johnny, Jim Toeman, Billy, and Gabe (his first time down the Watagua)
We got a late start and took our time for the sake of a "first timer" who by the way did exceptionally well. A very fun level, felt like 300 maybe 325...I wanted to do a 2nd but with the idea of a 3:45 wake up and not much sleep last night, I called it a day. I wish we had gotten an earlier start. A few good pics from Stateline:

8/18: Tuesday Afterwork Ride with Gerhard

We parked at Lower Upper Creek and climbed up to the top of Chestnut Mountain. It had just rained and the creek was still running brown:

Climb up from Upper Creek to Chestnut Mtn then down Bee Hive
Initially I couldnt decide on what to ride. I had entertained riding out to Harper Creek Falls where John and Hans were swimming. Another choice was the Figure 8 at race speed. Maybe just Sinkhole? I easily came up with reasons not to do any of that. While I was stretching my legs at Birthday Knob I called Clara and made some loose afternoon plans. I decided to get the biggest bang for my buck in the climb and the down hill department by continuing onto the Chestnut Mountain climb then bomb back down and carry it straight into and down Bee Hive.
Starting elevation: 1,234'
Chestnut Mtn peak elevation: 3,372'
A good 10.4 miles

Mountain Bike Camping Trip on Chestnut Mtn
Rode in Saturday night (8/8/09) and enjoyed a smokin' fire:
Sunday morning (8/9/09) get up to ride the Big O.
Pedal up Craig Creek Rd to the car at the Pass for lunch and dinner preparation. Back up to the campsite.
Good night sleep on Chestnut Mtn then climb up to the top Monday morning (8/10/09), and back down to the pass with the pack.

Saturday back on the bike...
The "MTB In" campsite aka "The Spot":
The climb up and bomb down Chestnut Mtn:
A real mountain bike ride, blood, broken chain, trail work, etc.
Hazy days, you can just barely see Grandfather Mtn:
Parked at the bottom of Lower Wilson Ridge (aka The Spike), climb Craig Creek Rd to the pass, climbed up Chestnut Mtn taking the right across from the top of Bee Hive, climbed over the top and down the other side dropping out at the top of Raider Camp, to the Upper South Harper Falls overlook, down to Harper Creek, dry foot Xing then broken chain right before the Yellow Buck crossing. Good to see Enoch and Charlotte crowd. Out and back on the Spike and home to contemplate the ride in at dusk and camping at "The Spot".
