12/21/2014 Colbert Ridge to Black Mountain Crest Trail and to the Top of Winter Star Mountain then back

Dan and I had planned on heading up the Parkway from Hwy 80 but it was blocked off so he suggested Colbert Ridge. My first time on this trail but I doubt it will be my last time. It was all uphill to the top of Winter Star Mountain then all down hill back to the car. 3,400 feet of elevation change from the car to the stop of Winter Star at 6,200 feet. I want to explore more of northern section of this trail system.

Misty Mountain Hop was playing in my head while hiking thru this section. It was probably only about a mile long section of fog both going up and coming back down. We missed a few views but it was worth it for the mystique of a little Misty Mountain Hike and I'm pretty sure I will be back and catch them next time.

Still some snow and ice up at the highest elevations.

Back into the fog on the way back down the mountain
